Introduction Post

Hi! Welcome to my website. My name is Jake Tyson, and it has been my dream to be an author since I was probably ten years old. At that age, I wrote a story about pirates, and from then on, I was determined to one day be a published author. My interests and my focus changed over time, but that desire never went away.

 

I’ve always loved writing. I was far better at spelling, English, and grammar in school than I was at math or the sciences, and I think it’s because I enjoy writing so much. So, when I graduated high school and started thinking about college, I knew I needed to focus my attention on an area that would allow me to write. A lot. So with that in mind, I started college in 2014 at Central Baptist College, majoring in journalism.

 

My time at CBC taught me a lot about writing, and for most of my four years there I was on staff with the school newspaper, the Tower. For almost two of those years, I was the print editor for the paper. I learned a lot about a lot of things as a journalism major, from web design to photography and videography. But my favorite classes were those that taught me more about writing.

 

Outside of my major field of study, I took several literature classes–Introduction to Fiction, English Literature, and American Literature. I also took a film appreciation class. These classes gave me an even greater appreciation of fiction and reaffirmed my desire to become an author.

 

In 2016, I attended the Realm Makers conference. It was great to spend almost a whole week learning from and becoming friends with fellow authors or aspiring authors, people who were just as nerdy as me! Realm Makers taught me a lot about the profession I was seeking to enter into.

 

I haven’t been able to attend a Realm Makers conference the past two years, but one day I hope I can go to another one, because I know that the opportunities provided at those conferences, from meeting publishers and agents to learning from fellow authors, don’t come up every day.

 

Since I’ve graduated from college this past year, I am seeking to refocus my attention on getting published. One day, I believe that will happen, as I believe God has given me some unique stories that He wants told. Above all, I want to honor Him in everything I write!
